I am primarily a realistic painter. I graduated from the State University of Iowa, Iowa City with a B.A. in Fine Arts. There I became convinced of the importance of learning techniques of realistic representation as a foundation on which to build. As the years passed, I used that foundation for interpreting many different subjects in many media, sometimes combining media.

My subjects are always scenes I see regularly, and/or issues that are part of my daily life. I taught art for over ten years in nursing homes, and did portraits of women who attended my classes. I collected some of the wonderful art the was created in these classes. Also, I have a love of nature, and paint scenes from my back yard, plus what catches my eye on a Sierra Club outing.

Back in 1980 stimulated by taking a course Women in Art History, I expanded from painting only what I saw to sometimes painting what I felt and imagined. Diane Rusnak, teacher of the Art History class, encouraged us to use our unique experiences as women for inspiration in our art. My collages on women and beauty were born at this time.

My paintings are shown regularly in the Bay Area, and nationally. A Visit with Our Elders, an exhibit combining my nursing home portraits with art created by nursing home residents toured to venues across the country with Exhibition Touring Service.
